A new online change of vehicle ownership service has been launched
A new online service is now available that will simplify the process of transferring private vehicle ownership, . Previously, owners had to mail their Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC) to the Department of Transport or visit a motor tax office.
This innovative platform empowers both buyers and sellers:
- Buyers: Gain real-time access to crucial vehicle details before purchase. This includes make/model, color, motor tax and test status, number of previous owners, and import history.
- Sellers: Ensure a smooth transition by electronically transferring ownership records. Additionally, this confirms their freedom from future legal obligations regarding the vehicle.
Benefits for Everyone:
With over half of Ireland's estimated one million annual vehicle ownership changes involving private sales, this online service offers significant advantages:
- Convenience: Eliminate the need for in-person visits or postal paperwork.
- Transparency: Buyers get accurate and up-to-date information to make informed decisions.
- Efficiency: Streamline the ownership transfer process for both parties.
Ministerial Support:
James Lawless, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, emphasizes the benefits for both sellers and buyers:
