Israeli Startup Fuels Cars With Water
A car fueled mostly by water has been unveiled by an Israeli startup firm attempting to reinvent the automotive industry.
For decades, many have been searching for an alternative to petrol-powered cars. There is a lot of focus on electric vehicles at the moment but this startup believes it has made progress by introducing a mostly water powered vehicle.
Electriq-Global, which is an Australian-Israeli company announced that they've created the new system that uses fuel made of 60% water.
Amazingly, they are claiming it will have zero emissions and will have twice the range at half the cost of traditional electric vehicles. According to the startup, the energy density is up to 15 times that of electric batteries currently in use by the likes of Tesla.
Electriq~Global showed off its new technology at the EcoMotion 2018 Smart Mobility Summit in Tel Aviv, Israel. CEO Guy N. Michrowski, said:
"Our technology brings dramatic news of improvement in driving range, refuelling time, and cost of fuel and changes the rules of the game in many fields – including transportation and energy storage,"
Another Israeli research team from Ben-Gurion University and the Technion Institute has discovered a chemical process that could lead to hydrogen-fueled cars.
“This discovery could have a significant impact on efforts to replace carbon-based fuels with more environmentally friendly hydrogen fuels,”
A lot of new automotive technologies are coming out of Israel at the moment. One Singapore company is testing self-driving buses in Israel and also Volkswagen and Intel have announced that they too will launch a driverless car service there next year.
A group of Israeli college students has invented a portable robot chauffeur that can easily be installed into any car and another Israeli startup, from former students of the Ben-Gurion University, has invented a car that folds up while you're driving so it can weave in and out of traffic and fit into smaller parking spaces.
