Motorists urged to 'slow down' as weather warnings hit some parts of the country
Motorists are being warned to slow down as weather warnings have been put in place in some parts of the country.
There is a status orange weather warning in place around Cork and Kerry until tomorrow with up to 70mm of rainfall expected.
Galway, Mayo and Sligo also have weather warnings in place, with rain forecast of up to 40mm expected.
As a result of the weather alerts, motorists are being urged to slow down and increase their braking distance as after dry spell, the roads can be more lethal.
The M7 is moving slowly according to Dublin City Council's Traffic Management Centre.
Traffic is moving quite well nationally but road users have been advised by the AA of some roadworks in place around the country which are expected to cause delays for commuters:
Donegal there are roadworks taking place on the N56 Link Rd at Kiltoy
Letterkenny (at the old Unifi Factory) until Wednesday June 7. A minor diversion is in place for traffic towards Gortlee.
In Cavan stop/go system is in place on the N3 Cavan/Dublin Rd between Lavey and Cavan Town until Saturday June 7 and delays are expected.
A stop/go system is in place on the N11 Wexford/Dublin Rd between Enniscorthy and Ferns just north of the Scarawalsh R/A for works until June, Friday 16 at 7pm.
Meanwhile, Dublin Fire Brigade has also taken to Twitter to urge drivers to be cautious on the roads this morning.
Not a great day out there in many parts of the country but at least it's not very cold. Once again, all drivers are being encouraged to put their lights on and increase their distance from the car in front.
Safe motoring!
