Tesla to launch its new Model Y in 2020
Tesla has revealed its new electric vehicle which they will be launching in 2020.
The Tesla Model Y is a fully electric compact SUV and it will cost in the region of €30,000.
The new SUV is based on the Tesla Model 3 and will utilise its platform. The company is aiming to supply a cheaper and more simplistic version of the Model X.
Tesla is expecting that this mini SUV will be the brand’s most popular model to date.
The Standard Range model will have a range of 230-miles and the Long Range version will be able to travel up to 300 miles.
Tesla Model Y will also come in a Dual-Motor all-wheel-drive version and will be engineered also in Performance versions.
This Sports Utility Vehicle will be available as a seven-seater which is ideal for families and will give it an edge over similarly sized SUVs like the Mercedes GLC and the BMW X3.
Tesla plans to release its Long- Range, Dual-Motor and Performance models first when it goes on sale in the United States from Autumn 2020.
We can expect that Irish and UK versions of the Model Y will arrive two years later.
The Long-Range Model Y will cost around €42,000 with the Dual Motor (all-wheel-drive) version costing from €45,000 and the Performance models ranging from €53,000 based on the US price point.
The cheapest, standard range Model Y will most likely be priced from around €30,000.
Inside the new car, the dashboard will be similar to the Model 3 with the iconic Tesla 15-inch touchscreen which is used for all the controls and infotainment and instruments.
There will also be ample boot space when the rear seats are folded down to provide more than 1,800 litres of storage.
Drivers will also be able to unlock and start the Model Y just by using their smartphone.
The Model Y will also have charging times of up to 1,000 miles per hour using one of Tesla’s third-generation Superchargers.
