10 Most Imported vehicles during September
With the value of Sterling Plummeting after Brexit, motorists in Republic of Ireland are increasingly interested for shopping for second hand cars in UK. Earlier, due to the relative strength of Pound & Euro, only those looking to buy high end cars would end up making a big enough saving that would make the trip and all the labor across the water worthwhile.
RISE IN IMPORTS
As noted post Brexit, the number of used imports entering the Irish car market from NI & Britain went up rapidly. So far, the total number of imports for the year stands at very close to 54,000, which is about one third of total new cars sold this year, in Ireland. The Top imported vehicle in Ireland for September 2016 remains 2012 Diesel Volkswagen Golf, followed by 2013 Ford Focus. 2012 Volkswagen Passat is third most imported vehicle. Nissan Qashqai, Vauxhall Insignia & Audi A4 also made the list.

Previous Data Suggests 15% of UK Imported Cars Have a Hidden Past
Justin Kavanagh, the MD of MyVehicle.ie believes Irish consumers need to be careful when purchasing a used vehicle in general and in particular UK imported vehicle. “I feel it’s time that we stop Ireland from being the UK’s dumping ground for vehicles that have been written off or clocked and the only way to do this, is for potential buyers to get Smart and to stop accepting someone’s word or honest face! Do your research, check the vehicles background history yourself, to ensure that you are buying a vehicle that is legitimate and safe”.
