Spare a thought for millions of Americans who are hitting the roads today ahead of the ‘Thanksgiving’ holiday, one of the busiest travel days of the year.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) expect 48.7 million people are to travel 50 miles or more over the ‘Thanksgiving’ holiday period.
Robert Sinclair of the AAA said, “Eighty-nine percent by car...Historic gas prices, the lowest we were back in 2007 at $2.05, that’s the national average, with $2.17 now.”
Sinclair went on to say that the worst time to go is Wednesday. “The day before, getaway day, everybody hits the road en mass,”
ABC7 Eyewitness News captured this incredible footage of what might just be the world’s worst traffic jam in southern California.
The footage has racked up millions of views on their facebook page with many commenting on social media.
Facebook user Gps Erick said: “Are you sure that's traffic? Maybe they decorated the 405 with Christmas lights.”
Dennis John Depew wrote: “It's called the 405 for a reason: It takes you ‘4 o' 5’ hours to get anywhere.”
“It's like the red and white blood cells flowing through the major arteries of the city. Pretty, wouldn't want to be in it,” another wrote.
If you are in traffic on the M50 tonight in the usual rush hour traffic, just be glad you are not on the 405 freeway in LA!
